Diversity in the world of 2025. Oh, hark, never did the word exclusionary of so fair a clothing.

Fantasy is the go-to genre for escape, to control one's destiny, and feel that heroic actions still matter. But as the genre evolves and the sensibilities of of the age shift, there seems to be certain grumbling to be heard. Not so quite whispers, in places like Reddit and Booktok, with people seeking epic tales set in new worlds, exploring different cultures, and penned by folks with different skin tones.

What really do we mean by diversity in fantasy novels?

It’s about presenting diverse ideas, conflicting beliefs, and cultural frameworks that challenge and expand the reader’s worldview.

I invite your to take a deeper look at my thoughts on why diversity of thought is the most essential element in fantasy storytelling and how we as readers, writers, and publishers can uplift truly meaningful representation in the genre.
